Description
1915 Coca-Cola Bottle Patent Art — The Original Contour Bottle
Few objects are as instantly recognizable as the Coca-Cola contour bottle. This vintage patent art print reproduces the original bottle design patented on November 16, 1915, by A. Samuelson (U.S. Design Patent No. 48,160), a milestone in the history of Coca-Cola packaging and American industrial design.
At a time when soft drinks were commonly served by the glass, distinctive packaging helped Coca-Cola create a bottle consumers could recognize by its shape. The patented 1915 drawing shows the bottle’s unmistakable curves, along with the original top-view illustration, patent lettering and signatures. When the contour bottle entered use in 1916, its form had been refined from the initial design, but the iconic silhouette remained.
The original Coca-Cola bottle patent is held by the U.S. National Archives and has been displayed at the National Archives Museum in Washington, D.C. Reproduced in crisp black-and-white linework, this historic patent illustration makes distinctive wall art for a modern kitchen, home bar, office or studio—and a thoughtful gift for collectors of antique Coca-Cola memorabilia, vintage soda bottles, advertising history and classic American design.
